Using English to Show Christ

children-at-english-centerIn the past year, the IGo English Centre has continued to develop into an exciting ministry of building relationships, teaching, and sharing the love of Christ with our students, children and adults, most of whom are from IGo’s neighborhood. We are located next door to IGo’s training institute, and recently were blessed to be able to expand our Centre into an additional bay of the building. Our student number has grown to approximately forty Thai and Korean students at- tending each week. We offer group classes or the option of studying one on one with a teacher. Most of the time we have a waiting list of students wanting to study, so we are able to keep our four teachers very busy. IEC is open from 4-8 each evening to accommodate young people who are in school or university during the day.

IEC began in the spring of 2009 and has grown to reach our goal of four full-time teachers and a steady flow of students each week. We have gone through an almost complete change in staff this year, with three teachers going back to the U.S. and three new teachers joining our team. Several IGo students also assist at IEC, getting some experience during the two ministry nights each week throughout the terms. God has richly blessed us with Pastor Yut, an assistant pastor at a nearby Thai church, who helps out as our receptionist and is loved and looked up to by all of our students.

With the recent expansion, we have been able to add four new classrooms on the third and fourth floors of our building, make a designated play area for children on the first floor, and open a coffee corner on the second floor as an additional way to create more of a relationship-oriented atmosphere for students.

Please continue to pray for us as, in some ways, we have become IGo’s face to the community. Pray that the relationships we build would be meaning- ful and lasting, for the glory of Christ. Pray that we would be prayerful and bold in pursuing people, and that we would pursue them beyond the surface level. Pray that Satan would be bound, and that the love of Christ would be felt and experienced by each student who walks through our doors.
